Thousands of Burqa clad Muslim women in Malegaon protested in solidarity with the All India Muslim Personal Law Board opposing the Muslim Women Bill (Protection of Rights on Marriage) 2017, which is touted as Triple Talaq Bill.

Thousands of Mulsim Women took out a March in the streets of Malegaon and demonstrated against the Triple Talaq Bill. They said the recently introduced Muslim Women Bill is defective and politically motivated, it would not protect the interest of Muslim women.

They also warned saying, any interference in the Muslim Personal Law would not be tolerated. A woman while talking to Times Trends said,

“This government has no right to interference in Muslim Personal Law. They cannot force Muslim to follow other communities related to personal laws. As it would amount to an infringement of their fundamental rights.”

“If the government wants betterment for  Muslim women, they should not think and make a law on the basis of a couple of women’s problem. They should think about the majority of the women, Are they ready to accept or not? If this Triple Talaq bill is implemented, it would not benefit Muslim women, but create a panic among the families,” Rehana Khurshid Ahmed said.

We are not against reforms, but issue should not be politicised

“We have assembled here to tell the government that we Muslim women stand united and are not happy with it meddling with the Muslim Personal Law. Under no circumstances, we will accept triple talaq void. It’s un-Islamic for the wife to co-habit with a man who has divorced her,” a woman told Times Trends.

“We are not against reforms but an issue which can be resolved through social and religious means should not be politicized,” She further said.

Government has bad intention behind this Law, Says Shaikh Asif

While talking about the Muslim protest, MLA Asif Shaikh Rasheed said, “If needed we will ready to sacrifice our lives to save our Personnel law. We would not compromise any matter when it comes to our religion.”

“The government’s intention seems to be bad, this Triple Talaq bill is completely opposite to Muslim women. Shariah laws are complete and logical” Shaikh further said.

Muslim women never accepted a law against Islamic Shariah nor will accept it now, Says Mufti Ismail

While speaking t the crowd, former MLA of Malegaon, Mufti Mohammed Ismail said, “Muslim women never accepted a law against Islamic Shariah nor will accept it now. Muslim Personal Law Board, scholars and other Muslim religious organizations have always been demanding that the bill should not be finalized without showing it to scholars and intellectuals but the central government passed the bill with all its flaws.”

Mufti Ismail also demanded saying, “The government should withdraw their flawless law as early as possible. Which is against the millions of Muslim women. Before making law and implementing government should think in a better way.”

Muslim Women Bill Need to be sent to Select Committee for a review

Let me tell you, After passing the Mulsim Women bill in Lok Sabha the Central government is gearing up to pass the bill in Rajya Sabha. However, restiveness prevailed among Muslim organizations and scholars because of the bill. Religious and social organizations of women are marking their protests against the bill.

Muslim Women Bill is one of the most controversial bills of the time. The Muslim Women Bill needs to be sent to Select Committee for a review.
